Iraq: What kind of country are US troops leaving behind?

There are still some 30,000 US troops in Iraq; by the end of the year they are expected to leave.

Washington had lobbied the Iraqi government to be allowed to keep a contingent of several thousand soldiers in the country beyond that date, but Baghdad declined.

So the end of December will mark the final chapter in America's war in Iraq.

The BBC correspondent Gabriel Gatehouse has been spending some time with US forces as they prepare to withdraw.
