China-US visit: Obama says relationship 'vital'

US President Obama has welcomed Xi Jinping, the man expected to become China's next leader, to the White House.

Mr Obama told reporters that for a "strong and effective" partnership with the Asia-Pacific region, "it is absolutely vital that we have a strong relationship with China."
