Dharun Ravi mother: My son was 'ripped apart' by media

Dharun Ravi, a US student convicted of using a webcam to secretly film his room-mate in a gay encounter days before the boy killed himself, has been sentenced to 30 days in prison.

The defendant's mother, Sabitha Ravi, made an emotional statement to the court at the sentencing hearing of a case that has fed into a national conversation on anti-gay bullying.

Mrs Ravi described to the court how she has watched, powerless, as her son was "ripped apart" by the media.
