Paul Ryan: 'You are not better off' under Barack Obama

Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan took to the campaign trail in North Carolina the day before the Democratic party kicked off its national convention in the city of Charlotte.

His appearance came on the heels of the Republican party's own convention in Tampa, Florida, last week, where he was formally nominated along with presidential candidate Mitt Romney to challenge Barack Obama and his running mate Joe Biden for the White House.

Mr Ryan told supporters that Mr Obama "can't tell you that you're better off", and pledged: "We can get America back on track."

Recent opinion polls show Mr Romney and Mr Obama neck and neck.
