'I had three sons, now I have two'

The physical damage done to New York by Sandy will be repaired in time, but for those who lost friends and relatives in the storm its impact can never be forgotten.

The mother of a young New Yorker who died when superstorm Sandy struck the US has described her son as "a really kind person with a very gentle, sweet spirit".

Marcia Sikowitz's son Jacob Vogelman, 23, had gone to visit a friend in need as the storm approached. Both he and his friend died when they were struck by a falling tree.

Sandy left at least 64 dead in the US, laying waste to much of the east coast. Earlier, it killed nearly 70 people in the Caribbean.
