Staff fought to protect to children, says police chief

The first funerals are to be held for victims of Friday's shootings at a school in the US state of Connecticut.

Speaking at a news conference in the town, police Lt Paul Vance confirmed two adults were recovering with gunshot wounds after surviving the attack.

He said faculty staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School "did everything they possibly could to protect the children".
