Eric Cantor at Davos: US must rein in spending

Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is among six US lawmakers who attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

He told the BBC that the US needs to rein in spending on programmes such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

"We know what the problem is and we actually have solutions on the table that have been put forward by House Republicans," he said.

Mr Cantor said the US will be able to get back to leading the world economically if lawmakers can overcome political gridlock and tackle the rising federal debt.
