Large US landslide prompts evacuations

A large landslide has damaged houses in Washington State in the US.

The slide on Whidbey Island, some 80km north of Seattle, was still continuing when the authorities completed the evacuation of more than 30 homes.

Many homes on the island are summer cabins or weekend getaways and were not occupied when the slide broke loose before dawn. No injuries were reported.

Eric Brooks from Washington Department of Emergency Services said people were waiting for the slide to stabilise.
