Boston marathon 'a soft target'

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis has defended the security in place at the marathon, where bomb attacks killed three people and injured dozens more.

An investigation is underway into what happened at the event on Monday.

Speaking at a news briefing, Commissioner Davis said he believed security forces had "struck what we believed to be an appropriate balance" for what was a public event.
