Canada Train: 'Brakes were not properly applied'

The brakes of the runaway train that exploded in Lac-Megantic were not correctly applied, the boss of the rail company has said.

Rail World chief executive Edward Burkhardt said he thought that a series of hand brakes had not been set.

Mr Burkhardt confirmed that an engineer had been suspended without pay.

Sixty people are now known to be dead or missing after Saturday morning's disaster in Quebec.
