Gangster 'Whitey' Bulger given two life sentences

One of America's most notorious gangsters, James "Whitey" Bulger, has been given two life sentences for crimes dating back decades.

Bulger, who led Boston's Winter Hill gang in the 1970s and 1980s, spent 16 years on the run before he was captured in California in 2011.

A judge in Boston said the "callousness and depravity" of his crimes was "almost unfathomable".
