US Veterans secretary 'sorry' for care failure
The United States veterans affairs secretary has apologised and resigned over failings in the provision of health care for millions of retired servicemen and women.
President Obama announced retired general Eric Shinseki's resignation - which follows a scathing report about deep-seated failings in healthcare treatment.
After being summoned to the White House, Mr Shinseki said he was sorry.
"I apologise as the senior leader of Veterans Affairs. I extend an apology to the people whom I care most deeply about - that's the veterans of this great country," he announced.
