US fears for declining bird numbers

The United States has put 230 species of birds on a watch list because of their rapidly declining numbers.

The latest State of the Birds report claims more than half of all US shore bird species are either endangered or at risk of becoming so.

In less than 50 years, some states such as New Mexico, Utah and Arizona, have lost almost half their bird populations.
