Ebola warning 'a wake-up call' says US ambassador to UN

The UN Security Council has declared the outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa a "threat to international peace and security".

The council unanimously adopted a resolution calling on states to provide more resources to combat the outbreak.

US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power told the BBC's Nick Bryant that she hoped the statement by the UN Security Council would be a wake-up call.

''It is going to spread to other countries in the region...and beyond, if we do not dramatically scale up our efforts,'' she said.
