Obama and McConnell pledge to work together

The US Senate's new Republican leader Mitch McConnell and President Barack Obama have both vowed to end the political gridlock that has frustrated American voters in recent years.

Republicans made historic gains Tuesday's mid-term elections and now control both legislative chambers.
