President Obama names Loretta Lynch as attorney general nominee

US President Obama has officially named Loretta Lynch as his nominee for the next attorney general.

He described Ms Lynch, 55, as "tough" and "fair", and said he hoped the Senate would approve her appointment "without delay".

Current Attorney General Eric Holder, who resigned in September, frequently clashed with Republicans in Congress over issues including gun control and same-sex marriage.
