US blizzard: New York slowly getting back to normal

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio defended his decision to shut down the city ahead of what he said could be a historic blizzard Monday night, after conditions were not as bad as forecasters originally thought they would be.

"The bottom line is: We got lucky," Mr de Blasio said in a press conference Tuesday morning.

Travel bans in New York City and New Jersey have been lifted after the snowfall was not as high as predicted.

The BBC's Laura Trevelyan spoke to two New York City residents about their experience of the storm.
