Muslim Chapel Hill students 'had been threatened before'
The three Muslim students killed in Chapel Hill had been threatened before, a relative told the BBC's Rajini Vaidyanathan at a vigil for the victims.
An initial police investigation had suggested the motive for the attack was a dispute over parking, but relatives said it was a hate crime.
Many hundreds attended the vigil on the campus at the university of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Wednesday night.
Rajini Vaidyanathan sent this report from North Carolina.
