Texas prisoners partially seize prison in riot

Authorities in Texas have retaken control of the Willacy County Correctional Center, after nearly 2,000 inmates rioted over the weekend.

Complaining of squalid medical services and brandishing pipes, the prisoners took partial control of the facility on Friday, setting fire to several residential tents and damaging heating and air conditioning equipment.

Most of the "low-level" offenders housed at the facility are immigrants who entered the United States illegally.

The entire prison population will be transferred to other facilities over the next few days.
