Obama pledges to keep nearly 10,000 troops in Afghanistan

The White House said it was responding to a request from the Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani, who is visiting the United States for the first time since taking office.

A joint statement said the US will continue to maintain nearly 10,000 troops in Afghanistan until the end of the year.
