Police called to Trump rally in San Diego, California

Police in riot gear were deployed in the Californian city of San Diego to separate thousands of supporters and opponents of the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.

Protesters on the streets waved Mexican and US flags as Mr Trump held a rally in the city's convention centre. San Diego is only a few kilometres from the Mexican border.

Mr Trump has repeatedly asserted that, if elected, he would build a wall along the frontier to keep out illegal immigrants.
