‘Misunderstanding diplomatic speak for blunder’

Russia has vetoed a UN security council resolution on Syria. Both President Trump and Boris Johnson used to talk about building a new closer relationship with Moscow but President Trump recently said relations between the two countries was at an all time low.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's allies have called the rejection by the G7 of his proposed sanctions on Russia a "misunderstanding". But Sir Tony Brenton. the British ambassador to Russia up until 2008, told Today "misunderstanding is just diplomatic speak for blunder".
