Nato: Former Secretary General welcomes Trump U-turn

Former Nato Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer has said he "wholeheartedly supports" Donald Trump's call for members of the alliance to pay their fair share for the cost of the security umbrella.

The US President met the current Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and reversed his earlier stance on Nato, declaring that the alliance was "no longer obsolete".

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer told Ritula Shah on BBC Radio 4's World Tonight: "These are nice words for Nato, let's hope that the administration will put them into practice."
