Firing Comey 'sends chills' through the federal bureaucracy

The White House shocked Washington by announcing that FBI director James Comey "has been terminated and removed from office".

Michael Hayden, former director of the National Security Agency and CIA, told the Today programme that while President Trump has every right to dismiss Mr Comey, his "dramatic step" "sends a chill throughout the federal bureaucracy".
