Every year, tens of thousands of people in China are forced off their land by local authorities to make way for development.

But, in a rare turn of events, 75-year-old Liu Guangjia from Shanghai is suing the Chinese authorities - and a court has agreed to hear his case.

Mr Liu is demanding 289m yuan ($48m; £30m) in compensation - the largest ever claim brought against local authorities, according to Chinese news reports.

The BBC's John Sudworth spoke to Mr Liu and his lawyer. You can read the full report here, or read more blog entries here.
