Insurance company Legal & General has been forced to rush out financial data two weeks early after mistakenly e-mailing the figures to analysts.

"[Draft numbers] were inadvertently e-mailed to several analysts yesterday after 4pm," said the UK company.

"Therefore, we have decided to release the actual numbers to the market."

The company managed to send out the confirmed numbers two minutes before trading began on the London Stock Exchange on Friday.

The UK financial services watchdog - the Financial Services Authority - declined to comment on the error.

The data in question was only a subset of the company's full third-quarter results, which it will release as scheduled on 9 November.
