Allan Leighton, former chief executive of supermarket Asda, is to become the new chairman of set-top box maker Pace.

Pace said Mr Leighton joined the board on Tuesday and "is expected" to be appointed chairman over the summer.

He will replace Mike McTighe, chairman for the past five years and a board member for 10 years.

Mr Leighton worked for 18 years at confection giant Mars prior to joining Asda, and was chairman of the Royal Mail for seven years subsequently.

"I've watched the Pace business develop with both its ups and bumps for 15 years," he said.

"I've always felt there is a great technology company in there."

Mr McTighe said he was "proud" to have played a "significant part in Pace's turnaround in the past five years".
