Carmaker Ford has extended its 20 year sponsorship of the Champions League football tournament.

The US firm will continue to be a backer of Europe's top club competition, currently held by Barcelona, through to June 2015.

Its current partnership deal with Uefa had been due to end in 2012.

Ford is the third of six official sponsors to have reached an agreement with Uefa for the 2012 to 2015 period of the Champions League.

Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe said the sponsorship was "an ideal platform" for the global carmaker to reach potential customers.

The financial details of the deal were not announced.

The 2012 final will be held in Munich, and at Wembley - venue of the 2011 final - the following year.
