Airports operator BAA has blamed the "Olympic effect" for a 2% fall in traveller numbers last month.

BAA said UK passengers had decided to stay at home and watch the games, while potential non-Olympic visitors from overseas had chosen not to travel.

Passenger numbers at London Heathrow fell 1.9% to 6.5 million last month, while those at Stansted dropped 5.2%.

However, Aberdeen and Glasgow airports both saw traffic rise, up 9.1% and 3.1% respectively.
