Row after raids on Indian street traders

Help

Street vendors in Mumbai and Delhi have been holding protests after the death of a fruit seller, who they claim died following a recent crackdown by police.

There are an estimated 10 million street vendors - selling everything from food to clothing - on pavements in towns and cities across the country.

For some residents and businesses such stalls are a nuisance, but for many of these informal workers the trade is the only way to make a living.

Rajini Vaidyanathan reports.
