US employment rose more than expected in April with the latest US non-farm payrolls showing that 165,000 jobs were created last month.
Economists had been predicting a figure closer to 145,000.
Beth Ann Bovino, a senior economist for rating agency Standard & Poor's, said new confidence in jobs had improved the housing and car market.
