Obama to focus on poverty in State of Union address

28 January 2014 Last updated at 13:22 GMT

President Barack Obama will deliver his annual state of the union address to the American people late on Tuesday, setting out his plans and priorities for the year ahead.

One area he will focus on is poverty in the United States - and the growing gap between rich and poor.

Children are the worst affected - one American child in five lives below the poverty line.

Rajini Vaidyanathan reports from Washington.
