UK manufacturing has experienced a "solid uptake" in output and orders over the final quarter of last year, EEF's chief economist has said.
Lee Hopley, from the industry body, explained to the Today programme that this is, in part, due to a "more stable" Europe in comparison with recent years.
But Jonathan Portes, director of the National Institute of Social and Economic Research, stated that the industry is still yet to see a "growth in productivity".
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 17 March.
