Farnborough Airshow: Electric plane on display

16 July 2014 Last updated at 17:32 BST

A near-silent two-seater plane is taking part in the air displays at this week's Farnborough International Airshow.

The E-fan - which has lithium-ion batteries stored in its wings - is an experimental project from Airbus. Their ultimate goal is to build a 90-seat hybrid regional jet that will use minimal fuel.

Nigel Cassidy reports.
