(Open): US stocks rose in early trading on Monday as investors digested the latest set of corporate earnings.

The S&P 500 rose 0.42% to 1,981.90, the Dow Jones was up 0.34% to 17,109.6, and the Nasdaq climbed 0.64% to 4,452.94.

Shares in restaurant chain Chipotle rose over 11% on the S&P 500 after reporting quarterly profits up 26%.

Harley-Davidson shares fell by more than 5% after the motorbike maker cut its forecast for bike shipments this year.

It said shipments were expected to rise by 3.5%-5.5%, compared with a previous forecast of 7%-9%.

On the Dow Jones, two of the biggest losers in early trading were drinks giant Coca-Cola and fast-food multinational McDonald's.

Coca-Cola reported lower-than-expected quarterly revenue on Tuesday as sales volumes in North America, its biggest market, failed to show growth for the second quarter in a row.

McDonald's reported a fall in US sales for the third straight quarter, and sales in Europe declined for the first time in four quarters.
