(Close): US stocks closed lower despite jobs data indicating the country's economy was booming once again.

Around 209,000 jobs were added in July, calming concerns that the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates sooner than expected.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.42% at 16,493.37 points.

And the tech-heavy Nasdaq index was down 0.39% at 4,352.64 points while the broader S&P index fell 0.29% to 1,925.15.

Shares in engineering company American Axle & Manufacturing fell nearly 5% as it reported earnings below market expectations.

But shares in aerostructures business Spirit Aerosystems had risen around 13% after an increase in yearly earnings, in part attributed to progress on the Airbus A350.

Maker of Crest tooth paste, Procter & Gamble, also saw its shares rise 3% as it reported strong earnings.
