(Close): Shares on Wall Street rose on Monday, recovering some of last week's heavy losses.

The Dow Jones closed 75.91 points higher, or 0.46%, at 16,569.28.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq index rose 14.12 points, 0.32%, to 4,383.89, while the S&P 500 was 13.84 points, or 0.72%, ahead at 1,938.99.

All three major indices fell more than 2% last week, fuelling speculation that markets were heading for a correction after this year's surge.

Biotechnology firm Amgen rose 2.47% on news of a successful trial for one of its drug treatments.

Power company Entergy shed 0.77%% following a report that said the utility could be forced to temporarily shut its Indian Point nuclear plant.

Shares in Michael Kors tumbled nearly 6%, the biggest decliner on the S&P 500, after the high-end retailer released earnings forecasts weaker than analysts had expected.
