(Open): US shares were nudging higher in early trade on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones rose 59 points to 17,836 while the S&P 500 index was 8 points higher at 2,062 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq index rose 21 points to 4,748.

General Motors' shares rose 1.75% after saying November sales up 6% at 226,000.

Royal Caribbean Cruises gained 5.5% on news it was joining the list of S&P 500 companies. Companies' shares prices tend to rise when they join an index that is tracked by many investors.

Oil fell again, down by $1.61 to $67.43 a barrel in New York trading.

The dollar was up 0.57% against the euro at €0.8065.
