US stocks at fresh highs on positive news out of Greece

(Close): US markets closed at record highs once more, as investors cheered encouraging news about a possible thaw in relations between Greece and its creditors.

Late on Monday, reports emerged that Greece would ask for an extension on its loan agreement.

The Dow Jones added 28.23 points to 18,047.58, while the S&P 500 gained 3.35 points to 2,100.34, a fresh high.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 5.43 points to finish at 4,899.27.

A recovery in oil prices continued from last week into Monday. Brent crude rose 1.3% to close at $62.19 a barrell, while US crude edged 0.7% upwards to $53.12 per barrel.
