US stocks hit new highs after Janet Yellen testimony

(Close): US stocks ended Tuesday at fresh highs, after Congressional testimony by US Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen.

Ms Yellen indicated the central bank would not raise rates before June, cheering investors.

The Dow Jones rose 92.35 points to 18,209.19, while the S&P 500 index added 5.82 points to 2,115.48.

The tech-focused Nasdaq index gained 7.15 points to 4,968.12.

Among individual shares, Home Depot was the biggest winner, with shares in the home-improvement chain rising nearly 4% after it reported a 7.9% rise in same-store sales for the quarter to 1 February, beating analysts' estimates.

The retailer also announced plans for a $18bn share buyback.
