Body image qualification announced

Plans for the UK's first qualification on body image have been announced today.

Aimed at 11 to 14 years olds, the award from Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ) will cover topics such as body image in the media, self-esteem, diet and exercise.

It is hoped the lessons will help children who feel dissatisfied with the way they look.

Backed by Olympic weightlifter Zoe Smith, if approved by the exams regulator, Ofqual, it will be available to schools nationwide from next year.

The announcement comes as BBC Three launches a season exploring whether changing your body makes you happy.

The BBC's Claudia-Liza Armah reports.
