Director Charles Jarrott dies, 83

British director Charles Jarrott, whose film credits included Anne of the Thousand Days and Mary, Queen of Scots, has died aged 83.

The filmmaker, who had been suffering from prostate cancer, died on Friday at the Woodland Hills retirement community in Los Angeles, a spokeswoman said.

He won a Golden Globe for directing Richard Burton as Henry VIII in 1969's Anne of the Thousand Days.

He went on to direct 1974's The Doves and The Littlest Horse Thieves in 1976.
