Harry Potter beats Captain America

Harry Potter remains the hero of the UK and Ireland box office chart - despite competition from Captain America - taking £4.6m to stay at number one.

The Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was top for a third week beating Captain America: The First Avenger, which took £3m on its opening weekend.

Horrid Henry - The Movie was a new entry at number five, taking £1.3m.

And animated comedy The Zookeeper, featuring the voice of Adam Sandler, opened in sixth place, taking £936,063.

Cars 2 - a follow-up to Pixar's original 2006 film - dropped a place to three, with £1.9m.

And Horrible Bosses, which stars Jennifer Aniston as a nymphomaniac dentist, dropped from three to four, taking £1.4m.

The final Harry Potter film has now taken £55.5m at the UK and Ireland box office, according to Screen Daily.

World War II-set film Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers.

His co-stars include Tommy Lee Jones and Hayley Atwell.

Last week, Captain America: The First Avenger knocked Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 off the top of the North American box office chart.
