Picasso painting worth $1m won in raffle by US man

A cubist painting by Picasso, valued at $1m (£610,000) has been won by a 25-year-old American art lover in a charity raffle.

Jeffrey Gonano, who says he just wanted a nice picture to hang on his wall, paid 100 euros (£83) for his ticket which were issued by Sotheby's in Paris.

L'Homme au Gibus (Man with Opera Hat) had been bought by a charity working to save the ancient Lebanese city of Tyre.

Raffle organisers issued 50,000 tickets hoping to raise more than $5m (£3m).
