French playwright Florian Zeller has said he hopes to premiere an as-yet-unwritten play in London.

The Parisian-born writer has enjoyed success in the UK with his plays The Father and The Mother.

His latest play to open in the West End is The Truth, a comedy about marital infidelity.

It ran at both the Menier Chocolate Factory and Theatre Royal Bath before transferring to Wyndham's Theatre.

"It means a lot to be a French playwright on stage in London because of the mythology of English theatre," Zeller told the BBC after opening night.

The play, adapted by Christopher Hampton, stars Tanya Franks, Alexander Hanson, Frances O'Connor and Robert Portal.

A companion piece called The Lie - which features the same characters, but tells the story from a different perspective - has just finished its run in Paris.

Zeller hopes it will also come over to the UK. Meanwhile, he is planning to write a new work called The Son.

"I really wanted to finish something that is connected to The Father and The Mother," he said.

"I don't know if I will succeed but it's something very important to me. I think maybe it will open in London before it opens in Paris."

Zeller said he was "surprised and shocked" by the result of the Brexit vote.

"I write plays and Christopher Hampton translates them, it's so important to me that where share this adventure.

"So there's a little sadness, but it makes me happy to have a play which is a true collaboration between the English and the French."

The best actor prize at this year's Olivier Awards went to Kenneth Cranham for his role as a man with dementia in Zeller's The Father.
