Speech dating - using a computer voice to find your partner

11 December 2012 Last updated at 00:12 GMT

Lee Ridley is Britain's only stand-up comedian to use a solely computer-generated voice.

He was born with cerebral palsy and is unable to speak.

He has put together a short film in which three people who use speech-synthesis technology meet at a speed-dating event.

As soon as they start chatting, they realise they all sound exactly the same.

Voice by Choice was put together in collaboration with the Creative Voice Technology Network to increase awareness of the benefits people gain from using synthesised speech and to explore ways these voices could improve.
