'I buy vodka with my morning papers'

19 July 2013 Last updated at 16:06 BST

More women in England and Scotland are dying from alcohol-related illnesses at a younger age, according to a study by the Glasgow Centre for Population Health.

Vicky Perry, 41, is typical of this growing group of alcoholics who tend to be women born in the 1970s.

She says what started as enjoying an evening glass of wine led to her buying a bottle of vodka with her morning newspapers.

She is now receiving treatment for liver cirrhosis at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and wants more to be done to highlight the dangers of alcohol.
