30 July 2013 Last updated at 11:54 BST

What is "the cheapest, most nutritious and bountiful food that has ever existed in human history?"

Well, according to New York Post columnist and economist Kyle Smith, the answer is a McDonalds double cheeseburger.

Smith made the unusual claim on BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast, explaining: "It's really a little marvel."

"I wouldn't suggest you eat ten a day but if you're down to your last few dollars... you can do a lot worse."
