7 October 2013 Last updated at 21:58 BST

A group of scientists, including some from Britain, have taken up the challenge to 'map' the brain.

They are trying to simulate brain functions and revolutionise our understanding of how our minds work.

The experiment will take 10 years and cost £1bn.

Fergus Walsh reports from the project headquarters in Switzerland.
