Readers' photos on the theme of racing.
Each week we publish a gallery of readers' pictures on a set theme. This week it is "racing" and we begin with this photograph by Phil White of horse racing on the frozen lake at St Moritz, Switzerland.
Paul Carron: "True grit. A competitor in the Northern Ireland Masters Cross Country at Lurgan Park earlier this year. I liked this because I think it shows the determination on his face."
Ian Garfield: "I have been lucky enough to visit a number of motorsport events over the last few years. The weather's not always been kind but with racing it's unpredictable and there's always action."
Stephen Arrandale: "Modern armchair racing."
Kyle Burt: "A 1970s Tyrrell F1 car navigates the streets of Monaco during the 2008 Monaco Historic Grand Prix."
Matthew Alker: "I took this picture of the spectators through the grandstand at the Goodwood Revival Meeting in 2011."
Elizabeth Thomas: "Cousins brought together from Australia, Singapore and Dubai for their grandmother's 70th birthday in Montalcino [Italy]. The competition for first place was fierce but the smiles lasted all week long."
Lesley Reader: "The annual goat races in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Running for over 10 years this has now become quite an event, with people in fancy dress and plenty of bets placed."
Stefano Angeli: "A very hard 14.6km [nine-mile] cross country summer race. Here are the first and second best runners in the fifth Trophy Bagno di Romagna Terme, Italy."
Tom Ricketts: "The car is Mario Andretti's 1970s F1 John Player Special Lotus on the short straight after the first bend on the Lime Rock track in Connecticut [US]."
Henry Nel: "I took this photograph of a friend late one afternoon when the Sun was setting. I was trying to use the Sun to highlight the emotions in his face."
Santiago Nield: "This was taken on Oulton Broad in Lowestoft and it was by chance that I was following this particular boat with my camera as it spun out of control, creating the huge splash of water behind it as it did so."
Ken O Connell
